MONSTERS, INK.
PLASTIC with one of his banners, as received. 120”x48”
I have no idea what Jesus Ramirez is going to do. That is the honest truth.
He writes PLASTIC, and he is a car guy through and through. You can see where it comes from. Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, the man who gave the world Rat Fink: bug-eyed monsters, open mouths, hot rods standing on their back wheels in a cloud of tire smoke. Southern California invented that, and Jesus grew it on walls.
So his characters drip. A one-eyed yellow head with paint running off its teeth. A figure dropped right into the middle of the lettering. Then the marker work, all black ink: a hot rod rearing up over fat cracked letters.
He did not take one piece. He took three. A Monsters, Inc. banner, which feels about right. A Finding Nemo banner that is mostly one enormous whale. And a Heretic bus shelter that says, right above the title, “Question Everything.”
We will see what comes back.
