Cody “Bleek” Smith is a member and the historian of CBS — Can’t Be Stopped — one of the foundational Los Angeles graffiti crews. He directed the crew’s documentary, and spent thirty years photographing the scene from the inside. That archive became his book, From Negatives to Positives, a first-person record of three decades of LA graffiti and hip-hop. He also cuts movie trailers for a living, which places him on both sides of the line this project is about: the writer who paints over the billboard, and the industry professional watching his own business come apart.
